LION PORTAL SCULPTURE OF THE WITTELSBACH DYNASTY

Lion carved in basswood and gilded. A sculptor produced the lion sculpture in the Rococo period between 1750-70 for the interior of a castle of the Wittelsbach family. The sculpture was probably in the portal area or on top of a staircase gallery, the lion is of masterly preparation and wearing the Electoral crown and the bavarian cartridge with the globe in the middle. Excellent Condition minor repairs in the gilding the polychromie is in original condition .
