LION PORTAL SCULPTURE OF THE WITTELSBACH DYNASTY
Lion carved in basswood and gilded. A sculptor produced the lion sculpture in the Rococo period between 1750-70 for the interior of a castle of the Wittelsbach family. The sculpture was probably in the portal area or on top of a staircase gallery, the lion is of masterly preparation and wearing the Electoral crown and the bavarian cartridge with the globe in the middle.
